We include a score at the bottom of every review, which summarizes our opinion on the watch at hand. The score is composed of our assessment of the watch’s brand, case, dial and hands, lume, movement, bracelet or strap, fit, versatility, and originality. For a more in-depth explanation on each category, and how to use the score to help with purchases, we have an article written on the subject. If you haven’t done so, take a look!
Scores are absolute. An expensive watch is expected to outperform an affordable one. An inexpensive watch with an average score is high-performing just as an expensive watch with an average score is under-performing.
Scores are supposed to reflect a watch's "One Watch Collection Quality," and are agnostic of watch “type.” For example, dress watches often do not have any lume, as a purposeful style choice, but this means the watch would receive 0 points for the lume category. This, by no means, indicates that dress watches aren't worth buying, but rather that there is a drawback to this style, which is true.
Scores are centered on the scale in a normal-like distribution. This means that the vast majority of watches will score near 50, with very low and very high scores reflecting rarely low/high quality watches, respectfully.
